Issue 171: December 2004

At Wexham Park Golf Club Ladies Section AGM held recently, Sue Carroll took over the Captaincy from Janine Prunty. Best wishes were given to Sue by the ladies who wished her good luck for the forthcoming year.

Captaind and Vice Captains

I am really pleased to have taken over the captaincy of the Ladies Section. Along with the Committee, I look forward to a challenging but fun year. Janine will still be joining us in our competitions and I am very happy that she is able to stay on the Committee to offer advice and support.

The main items that came out of the AGM were:
  • The Club Championship will now be played 36 holes over one day. On the same day we will be organising a new competition called the Seniors Club Championship, which will be over 18 holes. Hopefully this format will accommodate as many entrants as possible. In the past it has been difficult for some ladies to commit to two separate days.
  • The format for prizes for the monthly medal has now changed from Silver and Bronze divisions to Gross and Nett scores.
  • We will be paying £2 entry fees for the majority of competitions. Exceptions will be the monthly medals (at £3), Board/Mixed competitions and Main competitions (at £3). Additional voluntary side competitions may also be organized, where appropriate.
  • To accommodate the 7-day ladies, the All Winners competition will now be held over two days.

Since the AGM we posted a notice regarding a trip to Portugal in Feb/March 2005 and we had a tremendous response. We now have a full quota of 16 ladies for the trip.

Watch out for notices for another awayday (anyone needing details of our Cowdray Park trip need only ask Maureen Bailey!)

I am looking forward to our website being up and running - which we anticipate will be in mid January. My thanks go to Kathy Byrne for taking on the developing and managing of our site.

Thanks also to those of you who returned the questionnaire - your responses gave us a good basis for running the section for the forthcoming year.

We continue to encourage our newer ladies to go through the process of obtaining their handicaps with the aim of eventually joining us in the various competitions - our aim is to encourage and help them where we can.

If anyone would like to discuss any aspect of the running of the ladies section, Carol, Anne and I would be very happy to talk with you.

I am particularly looking forward to working with Carol and Anne. They have both been beavering away in the background for some time and are an enormous asset to our group.

I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas holiday period and also a good year's golfing ahead for us all.

Presents

Ladies, A note of thanks to one and all for the money collected to enable me to buy a gift on finishing my term as Captain for the year.

May I take this opportunity to again thank everybody that helped me in any way, and I probably needed help in many ways (and still do)!

I hope you all enjoyed something during the year. I know I did, even when the elements - RAIN, seemed to prevail on each Captain's Competition!

I hope you will give Sue the support over the next year that I received.

Many thanks again,
Janine Prunty

Message from Caroline

I would like to thank the ladies who supported the Macmillan Cancer Relief by buying Christmas cards. You will be pleased to hear that we were able to send a cheque to the charity for £185, up a little on last year. Also thanks to those ladies who filled or contributed to the 'Love in a Box' scheme. Ten boxes of 'goodies and kindness' were sent from Wexham Park Golf Club, so well done all of you. They were transported to Eastbourne in the 3rd week in November and were on their way across continental Europe the following week. I hope to have a report on the distribution in due course and will put a copy up on the notice board. Great effort, ladies.

Thank you to Bette Humphries for the festive finery on the vanity table in the ladies locker room. You have spread some seasonal cheer with your kindness.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
